President

My name is Xavier McClean. I am a Senior majoring in Anthropology with a focus on Archaeology and am minoring in Geography. My current dream is to become an established archaeologist for a museum. Anthropology's importance in my life occurs time and time again as I interact with numerous people on a daily basis, and trying to understand their origins and established lifestyles and cultures. UAC's contribution to my student development is highly beneficial as it allows me to help inform others about anthropology while keeping myself involved in new developments as we continue to answer and ask new questions.

Vice President

My name is Michael Chikos. I am a Senior majoring in Sociocultural Anthropology and minoring in Spanish. My dream is to one day teach Anthropology at a university, but directly after college I'm hoping for development work in Central America. For me, anthropology is an important discipline because it is one of the first disciplines to tackle what it means to be human, and by definition the field is an intersection of studies in philosophy, language, psychology. UAC's helped me to know what events and presentations are going on around campus, and it has made me feel a part of the community here in Tucson.

Secretary

My name is Mariel Bustamante. I am a Junior majoring in Law and in Anthropology with a minor in Spanish. I have several dreams, I don't believe in just one. I would like to go to graduate school and then Law school. But I would also like to work for Latino Non-Profits/Social Media outlets and/or work as a lawyer and focus on immigration/humanitarian law. I love Anthropology - specifically Sociocultural Anthropology. I think Anthropology is important in understanding the why's and the how's of the world and helps us understand our rhetoric of what it means to be human. Anthropology is great for understanding cultures, language use and variation, and other behaviors. UAC is such an important outlet because it allows me, as well as my other peers, see what other branches of Anthropology mean to club members. We are all Anthropology, but we are all interested in different subsections. It is an amazing space to be a part of.

Treasurer

My name is Rohini Venkat. I am a Junior majoring in Biological Anthropology and Law with a thematic minor in Physiology and Hindi. Anthropology is a living take on the human experience. It’s much more comprehensive than history, which simply asks ‘what?’. Anthropology asks the more important question; ‘why?’. I think that Anthropology, while based on a fundamentally wrong foundation, has morphed into a thriving art and science! UAC has brought me together with others who share my interests and convinced me to change my major to Anthropology. Being a part of UAC allows me to focus a set part of my week on current findings and opportunities in anthropology!

Public Relations

My name is Shreya Muralidhara. I am a Junior majoring in Biological Anthropology and minoring in Pre-Health. My dream is to go to medical school to become a pediatrician to help children understand what they are going through. Anthropology for me is understanding how humans evolved to who were are. How our bodies and mind have changed to adapt through the various kinds of situations. The UAC has helped me make friends with people within the department and to learn more about how anthropology is used in the real world.
